And The Winner...

Oh, well. Much as I would have liked to write that my son creamed his dad at the lake, I actually won.

The blow-by-blow account:

Dad and son actually arrived mid-morning at the lake. The plan to wake up at 4:00 AM to ensure they got the prime spot at the lake was sideswiped by their computers (see time of my last post).

Once there, other fishermen reported that some of them have been there since 5:30 AM and none of them have landed any fish. True enough, lunch time came and went and dad and son were ready to believe they were about to get skunked. The bait they knew worked best this time of year brought on nibbles at best.

Then a bunch of teeners arrived from some other spot at the lake with stringers bristling with trout. They used spinners and started pulling in more fish left and right. Dad and son quickly switched to spinners.

Son landed the first fish, a trout about a foot in size. Dad began to sweat.

Then dad landed two trouts in a row. But they were smaller than son's first. So, the contest was running pretty even at this point.

Until dad got tired of casting and pulling his spinner. Dad re-tied to a 'Senko, wacky worm style. It took only one cast and dad landed the biggest fish of the day, a bass bigger than all the fish caught between dad and son so far.

Son tried the wacky worm too but night was setting in and dad and son had to head home.

Dad won this round. Prize: bragging rights when dad and son got home.

Grand prize: Dad and son had oodles of fun all day. Dad and son end up both winners.

Dad wants to brag some more but church is at 9:30 AM tomorrow. Dad better go to bed now or risk being late again to church.

Now I lay me down to sleep...

And seriously now, LORD, I pray in your Name. Amen.
